What Is the Flu?
Influenza, commonly called the flu, is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It affects the nose, throat, and lungs. Illness may be mild, but some people develop serious complications that require hospital care.
Who is at higher risk from flu?
· Adults age 65 and older
· Young children
· Pregnant individuals
· People with asthma, diabetes, heart disease, or other chronic conditions
· Caregivers and household members of high-risk patients
What Is RSV?
Respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV, is a respiratory illness that can be especially serious for older adults. Risk is higher for people with chronic lung disease, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), heart failure, or other conditions that increase the chance of severe infection.
What Is COVID?
COVID continues to circulate in California. Although hospital admission rates may be lower than in earlier seasons, infection can still cause serious illness, particularly in older adults and people at increased risk.
