Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis): What you need to know

Who is eligible?

  • Adults who lack documentation of ever receiving a dose of tetanus and diptheria toxoids and acellular pertussis vaccine (Tdap) as an adolescent or adult.

  • Currently pregnancy (preferably between 27 and 36 weeks gestation) and no documentation of Tdap given during current pregnancy.

  • Lack of documentation of receiving at least 3 doses of tetanus- and diphtheria-containing toxoids.

  • Completion of a 3-dose primary series of tetanus- and diphtheria-containing toxoids with no documentation of receiving a booster dose in the previous 10 years.

  • Recent deep and dirty wound )e.g., contaminated with dirt, feces, saliva) and lack of evidence of having received tetanus toxoid-containing vaccine in the previous 5 years.

What is it for?

  • Active booster immunization against tetanus, diptheria, and pertussis in individuals aged 10 years and older,

  • immunization during the third trimester pregnancy to prevent pertussis in infants younger than 2 months of age.
